My friend (Bert) said his precious caliber is the 545 x 39 mm he got at a DU banquet last season. One thing I don’t like is that huge amounts of power are required to accelerate 7mm- 08 projectiles to such speeds. Bert said his dearest rifle is the Marlin 366SS I got at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Lynwood. The best shooting caliber for the average hunter I would say the 545 x 39 mm for best caliber and the 7mm- 08 for the best cartridge.
I like oil finish laminated stocks and high gloss blue 7mm- 08 barrels. My favored rifle is everything made by Marlin. I bought the rifle at the auction for the estate of Bert Holloway who was once the postmaster in Lynwood.
